Zenith City Press publisher Tony Dierckins has developed over two dozen presentations covering a variety of topics concerning historic Duluth and the Western Lake Superior Region. Presentations are designed to take between 20 to 45 minutes. You will find topic descriptions and a fee schedule here: ZCP_Presentations.
Zenith City Press offers historic research services including basic research, written interpretations of that research, and procurement of historic images for commercial and non-commercial use. Fees are based on an hourly rate designed to cover the costs incurred by our staff for time spent researching, writing, traveling (if any), and fees paid to third parties for copies of information and/or historic images. OUR NAME & LOGO
The name “Zenith City Press” was inspired by Dr. Thomas Foster, editor of Duluth’s first newspaper, the Minnesotian. In 1868 Foster gave a speech to a handful of pioneers gathered on Minnesota Point to celebrate Independence Day, during which he laid out a vision of future Duluth, which he called the “Zenith City of the Unsalted Seas.” Soon thereafter, Foster’s statement became Duluth’s unofficial nickname and was adopted by many businesses, including Duluth’s Marshall-Wells Company. Marshall-Wells, once the largest distributor of hardware on the planet, used the “Zenith” name to identify its line of tools and other products. Our logo design is inspired by the Zenith Tools “star-and-moon” logo.
